For siblings: Visiting the intensive care unit

When a child needs to be treated at the intensive care unit, also its siblings are affected. Our new picture book will help prepare them for their visit. In the book our intensive care units are pictured in detail. So siblings will learn that critically ill children are ventilated and therefore cannot speak. The book shows hoses, monitors, devices and even other seriously ill children. All this information is embedded in a story suitable for small children. Looking at the pictures together with a parent and reading the story helps to cope with the crisis situation.

The picture book “Lara visits her brother at the intensive care unit” was initiated by Jorge Norden, a nurse at the Children's Hospital Zurich, and co-financed by Stiftung Chance.
